Rating: Starling rival Fuugo looks interesting
A Sunday car supplement is the unlikely source of this hot tip about ‘telefusion’ – that the fusion of TV with other technologies such as social networking. Anyway, Starling which we covered here apparently has a number of potential rivals such as Fuugo and Miso as well as Yahoo! and Google.
The tip’s author is Mobile Entertainment’s Stuart Dredge who was writing for the Sunday Times’ Ingear supplement. The actual piece doesn’t appear to have gone digital but you can see Dredge’s earlier scribblings here.

Of all the potential Starling rivals, Fuugo looks the most interesting. The product isn’t actually released yet but the company web site claims it “currently” supports Linux, Android, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Windows CE, Windows Mobile, and Symbian.
That’s a pretty comprehensive list of supported mobile OS’s. Axel Technologies – the Finnish company behind Fuugo claims …
“The solution is well scalable allowing the user experience to be the same on all devices, with the difference that smaller screens have less information on the screen at the same time than bigger screens.”
The web site is also actively touting for beta testers and you can sign up online. Amongst the countries lined up for initial beta testing is the UK in addition to other European countries besides Finland and Sweden, of course.
Plus there’s also a developers’ forum which will centre around the “public interface for developers to integrate new services with Fuugo.” It won’t open for customers until Q4 2010, though.
Just like Starling, the aim behind Fuugo is to integrate social networking on mobile devices with all flavours of TV and streamed video.
If Axel Technologies really has developed all of those mobile clients already, GoMo News is puzzled as to why it hasn’t launched anything yet. Not even the iPhone app first.
